I just discovered this really cute online vintage shop owned by my dear friend! She's always had the cutest and most blinged out style so it's no wonder we're freinds and both have fashion blogs. Check out her site and see what YOU might like!!!

Full Figure Fashion Week™ in NY starts TOMMOROW

Okay ladies and gents it's that time....the Full Figure Fashion Week™ in New York starts tomorrow and there's HUGE excitement in the air!!! I had the pleasure of asking the founder of FFFWeek™ Gwendolyn DeVoe some questions about the event prior to opening night. Hear what this Fabulous Woman has to say about this groundbreaking event.

Sabrina: Hello Gwen, how long has the FFFWeek™ been in existence?

Gwen: This is our second year. The event debuted in NYC last June.

Sabrina: How well is the event received in the Fashion Capitol and Fashion Industry?
Gwen: The response in the plus size fashion community has been wonderful. And, word is quickly spreading throughout other communities as well.

Sabrina: Who are some of the designers who’s collections will be featured in the Opening Night Runway Event?
Gwen: Some of the designers who will be showcasing are: Monif C., Qristyl Frazier, True Diva, Jaspher Knowles, Jewel Shannon, Osun Designs and Susan Moses. In terms of retailers, we also have Just My Size, Pure Energy (sold exclusively at Target), Kiyonna and Igigi by Yuliya Raquel. There are tons more. The complete list can be found on the event's website (http://www.fffweek.com/).

Sabrina: Out of all of the designers and shops that cater to the Full Figured Woman, which would you say offers the best in quality, style and versatility?
Gwen: That is difficult to answer since fashion is a personal taste. But, I will say that plus size fashionistas should be aware that there are several more fashion choices available besides what you customarily see online and in the stores and this is what Full Figured Fashion Week™ is all about --- bridging the gap between designer/retailer and the customer.

Sabrina: With certain designers like Kimora Lee Simmons of the Baby Phat Brand and Roca Wear and the Michael Kors brand is there an opportunity for conversation or an interest from designers who design clothes for all sizes to really focus on quality and form fit as opposed to just mass production?
Gwen: Absolutely! And our Business Panel during Full Figured Fashion Week™ will address those conversations.

Sabrina: Are there any in existence (besides “Figure”) or are there any plans to start a full figured fashion magazine or full fledged talent agency?
Gwen: Actually, Figure Magazine is no longer in existence. The magazine stopped printing last year, I believe. To date, there are several online publications devoted to plus size fashion such as Plus Model Magazine, Skorch, and Daily Venus Diva, to name just a few.

Sabrina: Pittsburgh is set to have it’s first Fashion Week in September, what advice would you give the creative team on hosting an event of this magnitude?
Gwen: I would advise anyone that sets out to produce ANY large event to remember the importance of being organized, communicative and providing great customer service. Also, a good, user-friendly, informative event website is key. Sidebar: I am always available for event consultation (smile).

(Smiling)

Sabrina: Do you think that FFFWeek™ will spread to different cities and/or countries?

Gwen: Hmmm, yes, I do. Check out our website in the next few weeks!

WOW, sounds intriguing!!! I can't wait! I'm so excited about what this does for us, women's self-esteem and attitudes all over the world!!!! See you all there and for those of you who can't make it, stay tuned to my blog for recaps on the daily events.

Sexy In The City

I know it's been a while....but I've been soooooo busy with so many different fashion shows and events over the past few months and it has been quite an experience! There have been some differences in opinions and visions when it comes to what exactly Fashion Week should be and there have been some not so great shows, some sabatash attempts along with some shows with NO fashions in my opinion. The attempted sabataged show was a failed attempt and the show went on w/o a glitch and I actually modeled in it as a stand in. The one show that I would have LOVED to have enjoyed because the concept was FABULOUS....was the one show I could not attend behind principle and matters of a criminal nature! Pittsburgh, we have got to do better!!! The HATEration is soooo thick you can cut it with a knife!!! I know the fashion industry is cut throat...the Real Housewives of Atlanta showed us that, but the things that have gone on in THIS city could give the RHOA a run for their ratings!!!

People keep wondering when am I going to get out there and put on my own show? Well for the above reasons and some others, it will be a while before I do a show in the city of Pittsburgh. Not because I've lost faith but because I need to do my research, I need to get the right team together and I need it to be not just another show, but THE best show ever done in the city! However, there are some shows and events coming up that will give me the research and experience I need. Next week I will be in New York for the Full Figure Fashion Week.

This event is full of excitement, education, excursions and evolving fashions. I can't wait to demyth the perception that "big girls" are unhealthy! Some of us can run a mile...in high heels mind you!!! Not saying we won't be out of breath....but we can do it!!! Some Big Girls are some Baaaad Girls!!! I know skinny girls that can't walk in 4inch heels like I can!!! It's a learned technique! Some of us have the skills to pay the bills but we do it with class, a business sense and a flavor all our own! The world over is coming around to our 'Curvy Culture' and way of living with no fears, no inhebitions and no excuses!!! The FFF Week is June 16-20th. Get details at http://www.fffweek.com/

I'll let you know how this one is as I'm sure it will be FABULOUS!!!

Look like a "Precious Princess" at Your Oscar Event

This is a big year for African-Americans in film with two movies up for Oscar nominations. We've always been "Precious" but never a "Princess"! These beautiful Black Women looked stunning at the NAACP Awards this past weekend. And while they may not make Joan River's fashion review or KoJo's best & worst dressed list...remember you saw it here first and I say they are FABULOUS!!!

The Oscars are coming up on this Sunday and in honor of two of the biggest nominees this year I want to reveal some fashions that would help all our "Precious Princess'" look their best in top fashion. Mo'Nique and Gabby are two of the main nominees of this year's Oscar Awards for their roles of actress & supporting actress in the movie PRECIOUS based off the best selling book "PUSH". As a plus size woman and young lady, they are both very precious to me my being plus size myself! We all know the fashion industry does not recognize anything past a size 3 in society but the reality is, we're here, we're gifted, talented and intelligent and the world can never completely keep us out of the equation. In fact there are so many full figured women making waves and changing the status in the fashion world that we are breaking ground everywhere. Tenille White (an African American Designer) will show her Couture fashions on BET's Rip The Runway later on this month.

London debuted it's Plus Size Catwalk for their fall and winter collection.

This past summer Glamour magazine did an article on a plus size model in the buff while Vanity Fair left Gabby off the cover of their young actress' issue. Tomorrow Tyra Banks will air her "Fiercely Real" Plus Size Model Search on her show. Regardless of what society sees as beautiful, precious, princess or acceptable in fashion we have an obligation to be confident, healthy and know that God made all shapes and sizes in his own image and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made! So here are some tips on staying fierce and a force to be reckoned with!!! Glamour magazine has made their Oscar predictions based off of the runway of New York Fashion Week. Here's where you can find similar fashions in "real sizes". Check out these Oscar worthy gowns.

This sheer look is straight from the Alberta Ferretti runway but can be imitated with this nude classic gown from NewportNews.com for under $60.

Bright Colors are all the glow this year so this 2010 Versace ice blue gown could be imitated by this powder blue elegant gown from Nordstrom for under $200 and would be a beauty on the likes of Queen Latifah!

This red off the shoulder gown from Nordstrom is sure to get you all the attention you want comparable to the Runway sleek one shoulder look.

If you want to be daring you can rock this ruffle & mesh skirt and lace top from NewportNews.com for under $60 and be the star you want to be like this Oscar prediction slated for Penelope Cruz.
Remember to purchase and wear your Body Magic undergarments for your best look. I know the Oscars are just six days away but they do rush orders for an additional fee. Go to www.ardysslife.com/sabrina'scloset and see what would look best for your dress.
For dress shoes and accessories go to DSW.com and Aldo.com. I found another website that custom creates "designer inspired" gowns with names like Bradgelina and Salma. Now these gowns are custom made to order so they take a little longer to ship. About 4 weeks so get your orders in for the Urban Empowerment Gala & VIP Awards... in Pittsburgh!!! So until then you can catch me at the Pittsburgh Film Office's 10th Annual Oscar Party at the August Wilson Center Sunday, March 7th on the red carpet reporting on all the local stars' Oscar fashions!

From Outerwear to Underwear

Hey Ladies and Gent's, you asked for it...Undergarments that help you look your best in whatever you wear! What do I recommend???
The Body Magic helps suck in your stomach and waist, smooth out your thighs, lifts your buttocks while supporting your upper and lower back. This undergarment accents all the right curves for the best look! It gives you the hour glass figure you've always wanted!

There is also a male T-shirt to help do the same things for the waist and above called the Abdomen Male Shirt.

Also, for the ladies that want more of a visible lift to their buttocks there is a Reshaper Panty. There's also help for the new Moms who want to get their old stomach back in shape called the Postpartum Girdle.

The Butterfly Bras shown here are available as well for full support of the breast and the upper back.
I've heard nothing but great things about these undergarments. Every time I mention it, someone lifts up there shirt to show me they have it on! It makes you look great, feel great and gives you a sense of self confidence. Because we all want to look great AND be healthy there are other products that aid in improving your health inside and out. Check them out and let me know what YOU think!
Go to http://www.ardysslife.com/sabrina to order yours today!
